Helen Wirt Lee Back to School Clothing Program

The Back to School Clothing Program provides new shoes and an outfit to school age children in low income families so that they have quality weather appropriate apparel needed to return to school.  The program also provides a major boost in the local economy as it results in over $80,000 in local retail purchases each year.

Back to School Clothing Program

Each year, hundreds of children in Bay County go back to school without new school clothes, and many wear flip flops well into the winter months because their families cannot afford to purchase shoes and clothing for back to school.  In addition, many children arrive to school without the proper materials such as a backpack and supplies.

The United Way of Bay County Back to School Clothing Program and The Do-All, Inc. Backpack Program have collaborated in effort to minimize forms, transportation, and pick-up for the families.  Bay County residents can now apply for and pick up both backpacks and clothes at the same location.

Special thanks to the our major donors, including: The Wirt-Lee Foundation, Globe Fire Sprinkler Systems, and Bay Area Community Foundation.  United Way also thanks all other individuals, businesses, and organizations for all of their generous donations that made 2015 a record year for distribution, with over 1,200 children. Volunteering is about giving, contributing, and helping other individuals and the community at large. We would also like to thank all of the volunteers who shopped, organized, distributed clothes, and worked many hours to make this program a success.

Thank you Bay County!
