Tocqueville Society

Tocqueville Society

Founded in 1984, the United Way Tocqueville Society is an opportunity for passionate individuals to become more deeply involved in United Way’s mission.

The Tocqueville Society recognizes local philanthropic leaders and volunteer champions in the United States, France and Romania who have devoted time, talent, and funds to create long-lasting changes by tackling our communities’ most serious issues. Specifically, the United Way Tocqueville Society aims to change lives through philanthropic leadership focused on the building blocks for a better life: a quality education that leads to a stable job; income that can support a family through retirement, and good health.

Communicate the vital role of personal philanthropic action in creating long-lasting changes. Expand high-level personal giving and United Way Major and Planned Giving programs and strengthen local United Way leadership by building a network of like-minded leaders across the globe.

Leadership Giving

Leadership Giving

Leadership Giving in Bay County is tremendous.  Our leadership donors are very diverse and represent many sectors including social services, labor, management, retirees, government, education, health, and others.  Without these dollars, several needs in our community would go unaddressed.  These dollars help United Way and its Community Impact Partners make Bay County a better place to work, live, and raise a family.

Leadership Giving Levels:

Keystone: $250 – $499
Cornerstone: $500 – $999
Pillar: $1,000+
Bronze: $1,000 – $1,499
Silver: $1,500 – $2,499
Gold: $2,500 – $9,999

Endowment & Planned Giving

Endowment & Planned Giving

For over eighty five years local companies, employees and residents have pledged their support to the United Way of Bay County during the annual campaign. Many millions of dollars have been raised and invested in local human service agencies to maintain buildings, pay salaries and purchase supplies to enable many programs and services to be available throughout the years for thousands of clients and participants.

Funding policies expended pledges almost as quickly as they were collected to be responsive to ongoing needs. A small amount of the revenues were saved to provide a reserve fund for unforeseen emergencies.

In recent years an additional policy was initiated with the establishment of a United Way of Bay County Endowment Fund to develop a base of invested assets whose principal could grow through bequests and donations. Each year a percentage of the Endowment Fund gains are available for allocations to the United Way and partner agencies. With prudent investment policies the amount available for distribution increases each year.

The value of an Endowment Fund is irrefutable and the need for the United Way of Bay County to enhance its endowment fund is imperative. While the majority of endowment gifts come from the bequests included in estates, donations are received as part of the annual campaign contributions from donors.

We ask that you consider the United Way of Bay County Endowment as part of your estate planning and request, when appropriate, that you ask others to consider this way to leave a lasting legacy to help others into the future.

A gift of any size is appreciated. Please contact Linda Vermeesch at our United Way office (989.893.7508) for more information on how you can continue your support of the community through United Way Endowment.
